The Island of Sicily 

Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea and one of the 20 regions of Italy. It is one of the five Italian autonomous regions and is officially referred to as Regione Siciliana. Its capital city is Palermo. Sicily is in the central Mediterranean Sea, south of the Italian Peninsula, from which it is separated by the narrow Strait of Messina. Sicily has a rich and unique culture, especially regarding the arts, music, literature, cuisine, and architecture. It is also home to important archaeological and ancient sites.

This magnificent Mediterranean island has an unparalleled collection of towering mountain peaks, deep gorges and baroque towns. Famous for their beauty and the surprises they hide. In Palermo visit the huge Cathedral, as well as the Palazzo dei Normanni with the Capella Palatina with its magnificent dome mosaics. Palermo’s most famous church, the Martorana, combines many architectural styles. See the Piazza Duomo and the Cathedral of Roger of Normand. In addition to the Mount Etna is an enigma. It rules the horizon with its often-smoking cone. Volcanic holes, fumaroles, hot springs and lava flows add to the changing landscape, many of which you can explore (though not too close to the main crater) on foot or in all-terrain vehicles designed to attract volcanic surface.
