KEA (TZIA), GREECE

The Island of Kea (Tzia)

Kea island, which is also known as Tzia, sits in the Aegean Sea, south of Athens and belongs to the Cyclades group of Greek Islands. Although it is typically a Cycladic island, Kea has a different landscape and different architecture than its Cycladic counterparts. Kea doesn’t have the little whitewashed houses and blue-domed churches of its neighbors, but it is characterized by earthy tones and elegant architecture.

Kea is an easily accessible beauty with a scenery variety: steep mountains, small fields, olive groves, vineyards, valleys, picturesque coves, exciting hiking trails and off-the-beaten-track beaches. On the island with the largest oak forest in the Cyclades birdwatching is a real delight. For those who are into geology, there are plenty of small caves (like in Kalamos and in Agios Timotheus). 36 km long cobbled trails will lead you to the four city-states of the ancient times.
